Academic Visitor

Jamal Abdullah is a researcher; he worked at Al Jazeera Centre for Studies (AJCS) from May 2011 until May 2016, who also heads the Gulf Studies at the Centre, in Doha, Qatar. Jamal holds a Ph.D. in the Law of International Relations from Avignon University in France, and a Master degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Jean Moulin University in France. His doctoral thesis was on the 'Foreign Policy of the State of Qatar: (1995-2010): Contribution for Understanding the Foreign Policy of a State in the Gulf'. Jamal also holds two more Master degrees in Political Sociology and Political Science both from Lumière University, in France.

Before joining the AJCS, Jamal trained at UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) in 2006, based in Geneva, Switzerland, and at the Permanent Mission of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva, in 2005. In 2009-2010, Jamal worked at the Department of Public Relations and Protocol at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Paris, France. He is trilingual in French, Arabic and English. Jamal is a member in the Arab Foresight Group, created in 2014 by the European Union Institute for Security Studies, in Paris-France. He participates since 2013 in the ranking process conducted by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program, at the University of Pennsylvania in the U.S.A. to rank the Think Tanks in the World.

He is a Visiting Lecturer at NATO Defense College (NDC), in Rome, Italy, since September 2012, and a Visiting Lecturer at the Diplomatic Institute in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Doha- Qatar. He was a Visiting Fellow in September 2014, at CIRMENA (Center for the Study of the International Relations of the Middle East and North Africa), at the University of Cambridge, UK. Jamal joined the Middle East Center (MEC) at London School of Economics (LSE), London- UK, as a Visiting Researcher in November 2015. Jamal has been elected to join the Middle East Center at Saint Antony's College, at the University of Oxford in the UK, as an Academic Visitor during the first term of the academic year 2016/2017.
